With the opening of the Fifth Session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference in Beijing on March 4th, China has once again entered the annual "Two Sessions" period. Food is an important topic that cannot be avoided during the two sessions every year.
This year, more than ten NPC representatives and CPPCC members from the food industry, including Cai Jinchai, Shi Jubin, Leng Youbin, and Liu Yonghao, actively contributed their opinions and suggestions to the development of the industry and society. From these suggestions, we can also glimpse some new trends in the development of the food industry.

Suggestion: Enhance the overall innovation and international competitiveness of the food industry
It is understood that China's food industry ranks first in the world and is a pillar industry of the national economy. Since the 13th Five Year Plan, the country has introduced a series of food nutrition and health policies and regulations such as the "Healthy China 2030" Plan Outline, which has effectively promoted the development of the nutritional and healthy food industry. However, while China's nutrition and health food industry is increasingly developing, there are also some urgent problems that need to be solved. "Cai Jinchai, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and President of Fujian Panpan Food Group, pointed out that China's nutrition and health food industry started relatively late and faces challenges in basic research investment, enterprise innovation ability, health claim evaluation and management system of nutrition and health food.
How to accelerate the high-quality development of China's nutrition and health food industry? Cai Jinchai proposed suggestions from three aspects:
One is to build a high-level industrial innovation center to enhance the overall innovation capability and international competitiveness of the industry. Build a group of national level innovation centers for the nutrition and health food industry in areas with relatively developed food industries, develop a group of internationally leading scientific and technological achievements, form several innovative industrial clusters, and assist in improving the quality, efficiency, and innovative development of the food industry.
The second is to improve the health claim management system and promote the integration of Chinese nutritious and healthy food with the world. Relevant departments should improve market supervision mechanisms, and on the premise of increasing market supervision and improving industrial policies and regulations, further deepen the definition of functional nutritional and healthy foods to facilitate consumers to choose nutritional and healthy foods. In addition, it is also possible to learn from the practices of some foreign countries, starting with improving management systems, grading the health claims of products, and adopting a filing system for lower health claims, in order to promote the integration of China's nutritional and healthy food with the world.
The third is to accelerate the marketization process of medicinal and food homology, and create a nutritional and healthy food industry with Chinese characteristics. Against the backdrop of increasing attention to traditional Chinese medicine and traditional dietary therapy for health preservation, efforts should be made to promote the popularization of community nutrition and health knowledge; Accelerate basic research on the integration of traditional Chinese medicine, regional specialty ingredients, and nutritional and healthy foods; Accelerate the marketization process of medicinal and food homology, and promote Chinese characteristic nutritional and healthy food to enter the world stage.
